Description

Pink Tourmaline and Lepidolite in Albite – a powerful trio of color and energy

This remarkable specimen brings together three minerals that grew side by side in the pegmatite environments of Brazil, forming a natural composition in which the soft pink of the Tourmaline, the lilac shimmer of the Lepidolite, and the pale crystalline body of the Albite complement one another. Pieces like this are appreciated both for their mineralogical interest and for the gentle, harmonious energy that collectors and enthusiasts associate with the combination of these stones.

Albite
Albite is a lesser-known but fascinating member of the feldspar mineral group, known for its shimmering, glassy appearance and often delicate white, cream, or bluish hues. Albite is one material that is often seen as the matrix for Tourmaline formations, providing the pale crystalline base upon which the more colorful minerals develop.

Origins and Composition
Origin: Bahia – Brazil and Northern region of Brazil
Chemical Formula: NaAlSi₃O₈ (Sodium Aluminum Silicate)
Color: White, bluish-white, greenish, gray, or colorless
Hardness: 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale
Crystal System: Triclinic

Pink Tourmaline
Pink Tourmaline, also known by its varietal name Rubellite when the color is sufficiently saturated, is one of the most cherished members of the tourmaline group. Its tones range from the most delicate baby pink to vivid rose and raspberry red, a coloration produced by traces of manganese within the crystal structure. Brazil, and particularly the state of Minas Gerais, has historically been one of the world’s most important sources of fine Pink Tourmaline, and the mineral remains deeply tied to the country’s gemstone heritage. In specimens such as this one, the Tourmaline frequently appears as elongated prismatic crystals resting within or emerging from the Albite matrix, often accompanied by Lepidolite, creating the striking color contrasts that make these pieces so distinctive.

Origins and Composition
Origin: Minas Gerais and Bahia – Brazil
Chemical Formula: Na(Li,Al)₃Al₆(BO₃)₃Si₆O₁₈(OH)₄ (Complex Boron Silicate – Elbaite variety)
Color: Pale pink, rose, raspberry, and red
Hardness: 7–7.5 on the Mohs scale
Crystal System: Trigonal

Lepidolite
Lepidolite is a lithium-rich member of the mica group, easily recognized by its lilac, lavender, and pink-violet tones and its characteristic pearly, layered sheen. It commonly forms in lithium-bearing pegmatites alongside Tourmaline and Albite, which is precisely why these three minerals are so often found together in a single specimen. Beyond its visual appeal, Lepidolite is valued as a natural source of lithium, and among collectors and enthusiasts it is associated with calm, balance, and emotional soothing, qualities that pair naturally with the gentle presence of Pink Tourmaline.

Origins and Composition
Origin: Minas Gerais and Bahia – Brazil
Chemical Formula: K(Li,Al)₃(Al,Si)₄O₁₀(F,OH)₂ (Potassium Lithium Aluminum Silicate)
Color: Lilac, lavender, pink-violet, and pale purple
Hardness: 2.5–3 on the Mohs scale
Crystal System: Monoclinic
